I have to admit, the last two Saturdays were so windy, I wore a white cap rather than tying the hat on and having the brim flapping around my ears.
The mesh-topped one is my favourite, but the colour wouldn't really work for umpiring.

Re 'You mean you actually use the chin strap! God, I'd feel a bit of an idiot using it.'...... I reckon its marginally better than feeeling a bit of an idiot chasing one's hat across the field after a sudden blast!

I have used the chin strap, but not so frequently as I've used the one at the back. I don't think the back one is really noticeable.

Haha, fair point! And I've been known to do that (once).
I think once you've got the hat on it probably looks better than it does in the pictures.
On a slightly different tack, did anyone see the umpires' coats today at the Test Match, are the same as the ECBOA ones (obviously different branding!) they look similar, but wondered if they are the same?

I am pretty sure they are. See images 6, 7 & 13 news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/cricket/england/6694481.stmGlad I had both of mine yesterday. The day started of sunny and warm then after tea the temperature dropped like a stone and there was constant light rain. So mesh before tea, fleece after was the order of the day. This was topped of by a very good match, good spirit, the right level of agression.

I like the look of this one but how does one know what size to order? Why can't they list them in hat size? If you ordered one how did you work out the size? Pete

Hi Peter, I seached on Google for Albion Umpire Hats and found an Ozzie web site selling them that gave me the head sizes in cm. I veryified this with a call to Lords and then (doing the obvious thing last) looked at another hat I have. The Ozzie web site link www.cricketcentre.com.au/ALBION UMPIRE HAT (P) - Made from crush resistant foam to ensure shape retention - Wide brim to give excellent sun protection - Green under bridge to reduce glare - UPF rated 50+ - Terry towelling inner band for moisture absorption - Air vents to ensure your head stays cool. Sizes: Small (54-55cm), Medium (56-57cm), Large (58-59cm), XLarge (60-61cm), XXLarge (62-63cm). Hope this helps

With regards to the ECBOA jackets, how have people been ordering them in regards to size? Is it best to order bigger than you actual chest size to account for larger stomachs shall we say?

They are a very generous fit. I were a bag to keep all my bits in under the jacket without any problem.

So the best idea is to order your actual chest size then?

According to my wife who is my expert in these matters. I am only a male after all. She said order the chest size as you would for any outer garment. I read that as telling me to look at what else I have that fits well and order accordingly. My normal outer jacket size is XL and I find that I can wear a sweater under the jacket without any restriction.
I think you will be pleased with them.

Excellent, I think I will order the mesh and the fleece lined ones. I ordered the ties and I was very impressed with them, didn't think they would be silk or that good quality.
Reading some earlier posts I bought the albion hat which is excellent, only problem is that it got soaked the other week in the rain and the brim is all out of shape, but I guess that would be my fault for not taking precautions

I ordered a 44, and received an XL. It fits perfectly well, with a bit of slack.
Rain is a major problem with hats, especially panamas. The Tilley does a very good job in either sun or rain.

My Albion Hat arrived yesterday. A very good buy at £20 plus p&p. Perfect fit, looks very smart.
Now, weather permitting, the acid test this weekend.

The Albion hat is great but my advice is, if it raining then don't wear it. I wore mine and the heavens opened, and as the brim has carboard to stiffen it it has no dried out all crooked, but I would definitley but another one.
