Hi,
My name is M. R. Singh (MR) and I disagreeociate's name is VN Kulkarni (VN).
We are former international cricket umpires from Mumbai & Bangalore, respectively. While I have umpired 10 ODIs, including 4 as a third umpire, VN has umpired 2 ODIs. Besides this, we have umpired scores of official BCCI matches, at all levels, throughout our first-class career of over 25 years each.
We are, also, Level III cricket umpire Educators (trained & certified by BCCI & Cricket Australia) with considerable experience in umpire education, as umpire educators, faculty, coach & mentor. VN has been faculty at the National Umpires' Academy of the BCCI, where he regularly conducted umpiring courses.
I can fill you in with more details of our background & experience in this area, if required.
We have, recently, successfully launched into conducting online umpire training courses. These courses, conducted on Zoom, are interactive sessions, embellished with lots of animations & AV support, and shared experiences. We were happy to give away lots of reference material for possible future regular use. The discussion is embellished with incidents from our field experience at all levels and cricket history, in order to make things more interesting. The course
is supported by quite a bit of reading & reference material, and quizzes for testing & enhancing the knowledge of the trainees during the course.
We offer a 'Beginners Course' (18 hours), which is an introduction to cricket umpiring, and a 'Level I course' (26-30 hours). The Level I course matches, in content, the Level I tests conducted by State Associations
in India & the BCCI.
Besides the above, we have a course designed for Players, Captains &
Coaches, in which we try to provide basic education to the trainees on a number of laws more useful for them. I firmly believe that all cricketers should know a bit about some of the laws of cricket.
Captains & Coaches should know a bit more. This knowledge will, I'm sure help them play better cricket. I think every coaching camp MUST have, at least, two classroom and/or field sessions on the Laws.
Besides, today, cricket umpiring is a viable career for youngsters to aspire to. Every cricketer hangs up his boots one day. The training on the laws that he receives during the time he's playing will cultivate in him an interest in the laws, and lay the foundation of an umpiring career.
We have conducted the two courses between the hours 0630 - 0830 & 1900 -2100 (IST), 2-hour sessions, thrice a week - but are open to considering adjusting these timings for the
convenience of international participants. The timings can be sorted
out for a minimum group size.
While the courses are basically conducted in English (with a smattering of Hindi mixed in), we support explanations in Hindi, Marathi, Gujarat & Kannada, in case of need.
Anyone interested in joining the fresh courses can contact us at m_r_singh@hotmail.com with their expression of interest & for more information & details.
Regards
