Zac Rayson of Fox Sports on Sunday,24 January 2021 reported:
A batsman was apparently run out twice at different ends off the same ball in the Big Bash League match between the Adelaide Strikers and Sydney Thunder on Sunday. Strikers batsman Jake Weatherald who was at the bowler’s end, was out of his crease when a ball was driven back down the pitch where bowler Chris Green managed to get a finger to it and the ball hit the stumps and dislodged the bails.
But the action wasn’t done there. After the ball struck the stumps, it deflected into the off-side and Weatherald was called through for a single, only for the ball to be thrown to keeper Sam Billings, who dived onto the stumps before Weatherald made his ground. Replays showed he had been run out by just a few centimetres on both occasions, however it was the first that counted.
Colin Pearson adds: This illustrates the importance of players knowing the Laws and playing each ball to a final conclusion. Possibly also emphasising the need for umpires to take time to deliver their decision - what would have happened if the decision at the bowler's end had been overturned by TV Umpire but the batsmen had stopped running ....
