during my match yesterday the no10 batsman of the team batting first was leaving the field having been dismissed. he removed his helmet and the scorers realised that he was not one of the nominated players. it transpired that there had been an error in preparing the team sheet and the error had not been noted by anyone.
he had already batted so the opposing captain had no opportunity to agree to him being a replacement of nominated players what would you have done?
we (initially) suggested to the opposing captain that he had no option but to accept a change of player because the player had already participated in the match. at the interval we then spoke to both captains and discussed whether the player should be permitted to bowl . fortunately the opposing captain was very accommodating and accepted a replacement of nominated player but I wonder what we might have done had he not been so amenable?
any views folks?

It sounds as if, in the circumstances, you achieved a reasonable outcome, although if I'd been in your shoes I don't think I would have advised the captain that he had to "accept the change". Obviously he could not have done anything about the fact that the player had already participated, but he most certainly retained the right to object. As a general rule, issues such as this do not require umpire involvement, other than answering questions or advising the captains what the Laws and rules provide. If the opposing team is unwilling to accept the situation your best advice is to tell them to take it up later with the league/association authorities.
