I have just received another newsletter from Australia which reports a proposal for 2012 that umpires in the Airedale & Wharfedale League (in Yorkshire) should be paid £32.50 plus 40p per mile (with a maximum of £25). However if no play is possible then they will only receive £16.25 plus travel.
Does anyone wish to discuss their own fees?

Sussex Cricket League 2011 rates (2012 rates not known) were £32 for Premier and £27 for Divisions 2 and 3, all plus mileage at 30p. These rates were paid as long as we had started the car, so to speak.
Where only one panel umpire is available:
1. If BOTH Captains are in agreement a non-official Umpire can take on full Umpiring duties, but ONLY if the one attending Official Umpire is in full agreement.
2. If a non-player cannot be found then players must share the duty of 'standing' at 'square-leg' when their side is batting.
3. When only one Official Umpire is present at a match that Umpire will be entitled to the appropriate fee plus 50% regardless of who fills the vacant Umpiring position, (i.e. £48 for Premier matches, £40.50 for Division 2 and 3).
Payments are made at the end of the season, in September.

In the Thames Valley League the match fee for 2011 was set at £40 for each League appointed Umpire (no mileage allowance). Generally each club pays one fee but should an Umpire not be informed of a match being cancelled through inclement weather etc and arrives at the allocated venue, he/they is/are entitled to half the fee payable by the Home team no later than seven days after the match date.
The Cherwell League fee for 2011 was also a flat £40, with a full fee payable by the home club for travel to a match abandoned without a ball being bowled. Any umpire officiating solo collects 2 fees and has to stand at bowler's end throughout.
