2nd Test England V SL, Lords, Day 2. (channel 5 highlights) www.channel5.com/shows/cricket-england-v-sri-lanka-test-series/episodes/day-2-14#comments( watch it) Stuart Broad bowled two in-swingers to the left handed Tharanga and on both occasions his follow through landed bang in the middle of the danger zone........but there was no warning from Billy Doctrove. Was he sleeping or watching the stands looking for celebrities or....has he been PAID by the bookies?? I did not expect this from a cricketing umpire of the elite pannel.

Maybe the protected area needed a bit of damage to liven this game up!
Seriously though, we don't know what Doctrove did about this (he may have given quiet words & warnings, which is good umpiring) before going through the formal procedure.
It's easy to criticise - give him the benefit of the doubt.

It's very hard to see from that footage if he did actually go into the protected area. There's one shot which is down the pitch where it looks most damming but it is very hard to see how far down the pitch he is at that point, also his second stride, as it seems to be that one which is the most close to the protected area, it is only the front of his foot that is landing and most times seems to be very close but outside of the protected area.
That said, I do find it incredible that a lot of bowlers in tests are not picked up on this. One thing that Darrell Hair did was enforce this quite regularly, although with quiet warnings before-hand.
