I recently had an incident where a couple of police officers marched on the ground in mid over and removed a batsman to enable him to make a statement. He was then free to return.
In consultation we applied the law as though the batsman had gone off for treatment to an injury and allowed him to return at the next appropriate moment (after a wicket had fallen)?
Now what should we have done?

Sounds like a perfectly good application of Law 43.

Surely 2.9(a) "other unavoidable cause" would cover detention by police, even if the statement was "voluntary".

Surely 2.9(a) "other unavoidable cause" would cover detention by police, even if the statement was "voluntary". Our view was that as his pride was hurt then 2.9a could be applied no matter how you looked at it. Make an interesting debate on my upcomming course.
