G'day Y'all , from Wichita Kansas USA. A unlikely Cricketing outpost.
One of the biggest problems we have is not getting any experienced scorers or umpires. All the people that can play, want to and none want to umpire or score ...go figure. So it's left to a few brave souls to try and do the whole lot !
The best thing i have come across since starting our club in 2002 (www.WWXICC.org) here in Kansas is the Palm Pilot software PLAMCRICKET , it is simply amazing it enables me to fully score and umpire at the same time and the players love the options i can give them like run rates and targets as well as graphs and email the score sheet to everyone after the game. When i first started using it everyone was like "what's this , how can you umpire and score too, there is too much to do , it will slow down the game. ) Well sure, there was a certain learning curve, about 30 minutes of play before you get comfortable with it. BUT i found a solution for that as well , i used it while i was watching a game on TV and scored it completely using the palm. It's no longer a problem to use on the field , it's a problem when i don't use it now. Best of all it is cheap and it lasts $45 for the software and i bought a used palm from ebay for about $25 USD. Now i have 6 palms using the software ( i hand them out to the visiting teams players to check out if they havent seen it before) and now in our league of 12 teams 10 are also using it and saying things like , this is so easy why didn't i start using it 3 years ago when you showed me . I also had my wife keep score it took her about 15 minutes to get use to it (An American who knew nothing about cricket at the time) so you can take a person who doesn't know how to score and have them produce a high quality score sheet with very little trouble.
TOTALLY AWESOME INEXPENSIVE SOFTWARE that will change your scoring or umpiring life , making it a lot easier and make you one of the favorite people at the ground.
www.WWXICC.org to download a trial version. (You do need a palm pilot to make it work )
Regards
Edward.
