Hi,
I had some youths messing about near the sightscreen at match today. No batsman complained and even if they did, we'd have been powerless to do much. However, it did get me thinking. What would happen if they interfered with play?
Is have thought common sense would prevail. I.e. if they stopped a ball going for four, dead ball and signal four.
Is there anything in the laws, apart from lost ball.

I think you're right. If the youths intercepted the ball before it clearly would have crossed the boundary then signal a boundary. If you're not convinced the ball would have crossed the boundary then call and signal Dead Ball when they pick it up and only count the number of runs completed and the one in progress if they had crossed.

My local premier competition has the following eminently sensible clause in its rules: "If an unauthorised person enters the playing area and handles the ball, the umpire at the bowler’s end shall be the sole judge of whether the boundary allowance shall be scored and whether the ball be treated as still in play or be called “dead ball” if a batsman is liable to be put out as a result of the unauthorised person handling the ball."
