Did anyone hear John Holder with Jonathan Agnew on Test Match Special during the Ashes Test lunchtime 'Ask the Umpire' feature? In answer to a question about a batsman treading on his wicket whilst swinging at a Wide ball, Holder stated categorically "Not Out - it was a Wide ball". Unless I am very much mistaken, this is Out - Hit wicket. A Wide ball is not Dead in these circumstances.

Before he makes statements like that, he really should check what the laws say.

I have often had cause to disagree with Mr. Holder's answers in his Ask The Umpire column so I see no reason why he would be any better 'live'.

I heard that too and thought that's not right it can still be out. I suppose it's understandable that a mistake can be made on the spot...it just goes to show how you can get away with things if you come across confident!
Even ex-first class umpires are human!

From memory I thought that he did correct himself a few minutes later (after a couple of emails or tweets from listeners I think)
