I would like to know what constitutes a good pre match chat between the umpires and captains. I'm very aware that it could be excessively long if not handled well and with a smile, but clear instructions do need to issued.
I do appreciate this is a team effort but presumably one umpire takes the lead?
An idea of all items to be covered would be great along with experiences of how well received these are.
Thanks.

It's always good to refer to Tom Smith's to see what it says in there, plus it should be one of the items covered in the first two sessions of a level one umpires' course. Face to face discussion with an instructor is another good way to find out, because on a discussion board, some things are bound to get missed, then the poster gets castigated by others for not mentioning everything.
