I've always considered a notepad to be part of an umpires required equipment, regardless of whether it is a School game or a test match.

At the risk of being thought a toady, for the last couple of years I've used Acumen's own logbook which seems to have everything I need apart from a little extra space for my untidy scribblings. I'm waiting to see if this year's version has an increased size in some of the boxes. Details are at www.acumenbooks.co.uk/amendex.htm

Jaybee - Thanks for the advert.
The current version was printed in 2012 and was bigger than 2010 version.
I would be grateful to you, or anyone else, for suggestions to improve the next version.
I would love to leave bigger spaces but cannot see how to do that without making the booklet too big to fit in the pocket. My writing is equally untidy so I sometimes abbreviate (eg when I am recording a time soon after the previous one, I will miss out the hours)

@acumen I'd already noted that you'd managed to increase the size - I was hanging on to see if there will be any changes for 2013.
Like you I do miss some things out if they're obvious - for instance it took me a long time to cotton on to the fact that I only need to put the total at the end of overs unless a wicket falls in that one.
One thing that could be useful is a suggested code for warnings for bumpers and beamers. I usually write something like: O15B3 Bmr (or Bmpr) W1 (or 2 or3) which identifies bowler (from the analysis) and the over and ball when it occurred (3rd ball of 15th over in this case) and the warning stage; I take it as read that I told the batsman, colleague and fielding captain though I might need to confirm that it was done if we get to the report stage.
Clearly there's not room for this (and warnings for running on the pitch / protected area etc) as separate items on the 'match' pages but if something could be incorporated with the notes about warnings & penalty runs that could be useful.

I shall be sending the layouts of the 2013 logbook off to the printers over the coming weekend (9/10 Mar).
If you have any further suggestions, please email office[at]acumenbooks.co.uk as soon as possible.
Thanks for the interest.
