Given that there are many experienced umpires using this board, I would like to ask a Question of you all. If you were asked to give one piece of advice to a new and aspiring umpire, what would it be? My own little gem would be " Don't go looking for problems, they will find you without any help from you." Over to you gentlemen.

On the lines that Gooders suggests, I have a contribution. Former Indian Test Umpire, Mr. Judah Reuben, who my role model and mentor, was fond of saying - 'Never trouble trouble till trouble troubles you'. Cliched, no doubt, but with a depth of meaning within.

But as far as practical umpiring goes, I would say, 'Always base your decision on what you see and hear. Never indulge in guesswork.' You haven't seen or heard it, your answer should be 'Not Out'.
