There is a report that first batch of MCC Law Books for 2008 have been withdrawn because there is an error in one of the dimensions of a bat in Appendix F. Consequently the blue books will be printed again and will not be available until late September - watch this space. Now, why am I not surprised? It was obvious that the new Law 6 was far too complicated!

To all potential scorers in Bedfordshire - we want to hear from you, as beginners and those seeking to move on, but we want to know who and where you are (geographically as well as in knowledge) so we can do our best to satisfy what demand there is.
To all umpires on the Beds list. We are looking at new or nearly new umpires at the moment. We plan a Level 1 course for the new year, for those pretty determined to put in 10-11 evenings' work, plus some homework, and become dedicated officials.
For a simpler start, we will be running a short “taster” umpires course for anyone who would like to know more about the laws of the game. This evening course is suitable for complete beginners and will be held on the 3rd, 10th and 17th November at Flitwick Cricket Club. This will be at a modest (sponsored) cost.
For all this contact Paul Barnes on 01234 344150 or at paul.barnes780@ntlworld.com

Croydon Umpires and Scorers Association are running an Intermediate Umpires Course starting on Monday October 6th at Addiscombe Cricket Club, Sandilands, Croydon at 7.30 pm, for eight consecutive weeks.
This course is aimed primarily at those who have passed the ACU&S GL6 exam and have some practical experience of umpiring, although any umpire with some experience will be welcome. A significant part of this Intermediate Course will deal with practical issues such as fieldcraft and man-management, rather than merely teaching the Laws.
There will be no officially recognised examination or ECB accreditation at the end of this Course but we are working closely with the Surrey Championship, who are recognising this Course and will gladly accept any umpire improving their expertise in this way on to their Umpires Panel, subject to field experience.
The cost of the Course is £25. Further details are available from: Colin Wilson Training Officer Croydon Umpires & Scorers Association Tel 0208 289 9933 or wilsoncfr@ntlworld.com

Our Winter course completed last week. We started with five candidates, and finished with four. This is a lower number than in some recent years, but better than some of our neighbours.
All four candidates passed the old GL6 Mock Examination, so we have informed ECB ACO of their new Level 1 Umpires, and look forward to seeing them on the circuit in good time.
