Just wondered if anyone has received an apparently unsolicited e-mail from a South African umpire looking to spend the whole summer in England gaining experience
Are there any issues that should be considered before progressing such an offer, it occurs to me that we may have work permit issues or something?

This is the first I've heard of anybody touting their services from abroad. I assume that they are looking for paid employment.
Certainly there are likely to be issues with work permits etc if that is the case. For players there is a detailed agreement between ECB and Work Permits (UK) and I would suggest that you consult ECB and/or ECBACO if you are interested in taking this further.
The ECB contact email address is cricket@ecb.co.uk.
If you want to see a full copy of the work permit criteria for players please contact me by PM.

Thank you John.
we certainly will not pay anything other than our usual expenses. the guy claims to be looking for experience only.
apparently the ECB ACO referred this chap to us and frankly i have a number of serious doubts. you have noted several of them and i wonder about the D&B (CRB) process as well
i am intrigued to know if our panel is the only one approached.
once again thanks for your help

I bet that's Muhammad Jooma.
I had a message from him, and I referred it to ECB ACO. I get one or two of these a year, and I have concerns about immigration issues and so on.
My advice from ECB ACO is to forward any such messages to Saira Baker : ECB ACO Executive Administrator. Saira.Baker@ecb.co.uk

Yes, she is, and assured me no-one at ECB would have passed on our details. I have received several of these emails in the past, and one last year seemed to want me to provide board and lodging and find him a job.
Can't get involved, I'm afraid.
