There is a report that Ian Blackwell plans to become a first-class umpire and "looks likely" to make the England and Wales Cricket Board's (ECB) second-level 'Reserve' list next year.
Does anyone know whether he has had any experience of umpiring at Club or League level (or anywhere else)?
We had hoped that ECB ACO would ensure that ALL umpires would serve a reasonable period of apprenticeship to avoid some of the serious gaffes that have happened in previous years.

There's a report here www.thelca.co.uk/blog/blackie-looks-like-he-is-a-good-one/ which is by Phil Hudson who's Newcastle CC's 2nd XI captain, implying that Blackwell has been umpiring in their league. NCC's 1st team is in the North East Premier League but I'm unclear about whether the 2nds play there or in the Northumberland & Tyneside Senior Cricket League. From the report it seems Blackwell was doing the 2nd team game.
