I have just finished a Level 1 and looking to umpire next season, but I can't actually find any umpire trousers from anywhere. As I say it maybe a silly question, but where would I be able to buy a pair or would a suitable blue/black pair of trouser suffice?

How about - www.acumenbooks.co.uk/equipmt1.htmNine pockets? Between those, four pockets on a fleece, plus one on my shirt, I doubt I would ever find anything! I just wear a normal pair of black trousers.

Good luck to swood - hope you enjoy your umpiring! Ah, but what if it is a hot day and you stand without your fleece? Then I use a waist bag. Which I also use to store my 'match kit'. By the time I have taken out bails, markers, counters etc, there is room for a couple of spare balls. Hope I wasn't hijacking the thread from the original question - guess we all find our own best way for managing these bits and pieces. I've seen everything from tupperware boxes to fishing tackle organisers appear from an umpire's bag!

I always use a waist bag (and have just ordered a new one from Colin). I only have my marbles (dont like counters) in the main pockets of the jacket. Top pockets hold the Cooper card, team sheet, pen and the ECB directives. Everything else in the waist bag - 90% of it hardly gets used, so the last thing I need is all this 'clutter' making me lose my marbles......! So I just have various pairs of blue or black cotton chinos.

Ah, but what if it is a hot day and you stand without your fleece? Unfortunately Acumen have ceased selling these now that Duncan Fearnley have taken over the clothing aspects - although Mrs Allen still sells coats and jackets at a much cheaper price. The Blue Castle trousers are still available from wholesalers in Manchester area - and some local markets - please contact me privately if you need more details. I never wear a fleece jacket. I might wear a fleece jumper if it's really, really cold but I always wear a traditional white coat. It has to be very hot indeed for me to dispense with my white coat. I don't think an umpire looks like an umpire without the white cotton coat, white shirt and a tie. The new, casual kit, polo shirts, rainproof jackets make the umpire look like a refugee from a homeless hostel IMHO.

Not a silly question, but, at last, Acumen has found an answer! I have now received a sample and am very impressed with these new Action Trousers. Although it only has six pockets they are very capacious. The front crease is sewn in! More details can be found at www.acumenbooks.co.uk/trousers.htm The photo is of me in 42" long (33" leg) and clearly I really need 40" standard (31" leg)! Please email office@acumenbooks.co.uk with subject WantTrousers specifying your requirement (black/navy, 28"-52" waist, 31" or 33" leg) with a cheque or electronic payment to follow. I will place the orders on Monday 7th June 2010 and would expect them to arrive in time for me to despatch to you on Saturday 12th - unfortunately I shall be away for a few days immediately thereafter. Further orders will be placed according to demand. If your size is not in stock, then I will not bank your cheque but will advise of any alternatives available.

I have just amended the link www.acumenbooks.co.uk/trousers.htm as there was a full stop immediately after it (it was the end of the sentence). If you have previously tried it and failed, please try again!
