ECB have stepped to far, this is a copy of an e mail received today. ACUS training and examinations are subject to copyright and under no circumstance should ECB profit from this. they have no right to charge non members of ACO any fee as Their tutors are volunteers and do not get paid, their association should if anyone receive this charge? I thought ECB did not think exams were necessary? ?? Dear Course Contact, please see the email below from Sam Greaves. Could you please fill the attached form and return it to the address below, to register your course. Some points that have not been covered in Sam's email are: 1. The £10 fee is for the examination of non-members only. If an attendee is a member, or has applied to join the ACO, then no fee is needed. 2. Starter packs will be sent to you for your attendees. They will include an application form and a CRB form. 3. The form should be sent to register your course, even if you are unsure at this early stage how many of your attendees wish to be examined. If any payment is necessary it can be made at the end of the course. 4. A certificate will be produced for the ECB Umpire Level One.

Last year when the course was ACUS run it still cost me £2 a session (covering expenses for all the materials and media) and £10 to take GL5 (GL6 was free).
The ECB want £10 for non-members' exams, which is fine by me - since it would discourage those who are thinking of taking their first exam but not sure.
I'm not sure all that much has changed with regard to fees.

My point is that you paid your £2 to your association. ECB want this money for exam material which is subject to copyright and therefore does not belong to them? If member who join an association does not wish to join ACO then it has nothing to do with ACO. You would still have to pay your association on top of this.

Well I'm honestly not sure how the breakdown of money will work but I assume most of our fees will cover the reading material and computer software. The voulenteers will still head the meetings, for which we're all extremely grateful.
I don't know what the new exams will be like or who sets them, so I can't comment on that. My region's course will be in Feburary this year rather than October.

In our area we were told by Nick Cousins to use ACUS material as theirs is not ready, we were promised by C Kelly for may 2008 then N Cousins promised beginning of October, and still waiting hence using ACUS training. Which is subject to copyright.
