BIPIN DANI reports that
Ross Turner, the Cricket Australia's International Development Program Manager has concluded a 6-day educational training for umpires here on Monday.
"The coaching to them is an ongoing process. We had some very useful sessions with them", Turner said before leaving for Bangladesh, where there too, he is scheduled to conduct such interactions.
The BCCI and Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) have tied up with the Cricket Australia for organising such training sessions to improve the standard of umpiring in these countries.
27 State cricket association beginner umpires attended the training. A team headed by Ross Turner will again be in India again later this month to conduct program in Bangalore's National cricket Academy (NCA).
Turner, along with Darren Goodger and Graham Chudleigh were in Mumbai and they gave future perspectives and an educational programme on umpiring at length.
Turner has also extensively worked with the ICC and ACC (Asian Cricket Council). Turner began working with Chinese cricket through the Asian Cricket Council in 2005. "It will be a good future for the game in China", he said.
Graham Chudleigh has the experience of working as a trainer with ICC's Elite Panel umpire Simon Taufel.
Darren Goodger, the 37-year-old, is a New South Wales-based first class umpire, as well as New South Wales Cricket Umpires and Scorers Development Manager, will also be a part of the second leg of their visit (September 21-26) at Bangalore's National Cricket Academy.
Along with Turner, three other people from Australia will be the members of educational team. Nicholas Fowler, who is a former first class umpire and accredited trainer, will be a member of the Cricket Australia presentation panel in Bangalore late this month.
"This time in Bangalore, we shall have interactions with more than 100 Indian umpires. They will be divided into three groups and sessions will be addressed by these experts," Turner further added.
Simon Taufel was invited (by Turner) last year for training program in India. It is hoped the days may not be far off when Darrell Hair is also being invited for such sessions in India. "He is a well-experienced man", Turner said. Hair has joined New South Wales Cricket Umpires and Scorers association. His contract with the ICC is set to expire soon.
