Our Premier League had an Obstructing the field incident at the weekend, on youtube as part of the club's live streaming. The incident is at 11.2 overs of the second innings, at roughly 4.31.00 in the video.

That's great - wish our clubs streamed like that!

Well the correct decision was certainly made, though it perhaps took a little too long Difficult situation for the umpires though.

Well the correct decision was certainly made, though it perhaps took a little too long Difficult situation for the umpires though. Although a decision may have been made (it wasn't visible on the footage) it was ridiculous that the whole shebang took about 6 minutes to play out. Was it really difficult? The facts looked clear and surely all that would be needed would be for the umpire to cover himself by confirming that the captain didn't wish to withdraw the appeal and then give the decision. Even with 3 minutes allowed for the new batsman to come in a lot of time was wasted.

Timing aside, must admit I was on edge watching the interaction between batsmen and fielders. Maybe I just have the misfortune of standing in a more consistently aggressive environment, but here we'd have separated them pronto before tempers boiled over. Early intervention now means less disciplinary unpleasantness later!

It looked a fairly straightforward decision to me - he obstructed the field without a doubt. The umpires were very average in dealing with the situation though - it took a while to come to the decision (though it's fair enough that they took their time), they never took control of the ball, players were walking and standing on the pitch. They should have been closer to the players in my opinion, letting them know the situation and exerting some authority and control over the situation.
But you can't deny the right decision was made.
