Hear Mark Williams talk on the Laws of Cricket
Mark Williams, Laws of Cricket Advisor with MCC, will be addressing The Cricket Society at The Royal Overseas League on Wednesday, 16th November. The meeting, which starts at 7.00pm, will be of interest to all players, umpires and enthusiasts alike because Mark is the man principally responsible for gathering views on the current Laws and drafting a new Code for implementation from October 2017.
With ample opportunity to question Mark, there will be an unrivalled opportunity to hear about the issues that lie behind some of the potential changes to the current Laws: why some new Laws may be introduced and others changed or modified. It is still not too late for the views of recreational umpires to influence a topic that continues to be debated at Lord’s.
The meeting will be chaired by Douglas Miller, who umpires in the Thames Valley League, and will also feature Matthew Stevenson, author of the recently launched What Was Wrong with that then, Umps?, a book that covers, in diary form, his experiences of umpiring in league and club cricket. The charge for all non-members of The Cricket Society will be £3, but this fee will be waived for those who take out membership of the Society on the night.
The Royal Overseas League is situated in Park Place off St James’s (the full address is Overseas House,
Park Place, St James’s Street, London, SW1A 1LR) and it is no more than five minutes on foot from Green Park tube station. Pre-cooking is not required and dress code is smart casual. Please make a note in your diary and come along!
