.... I was wrong to vote against the "merger"?
Having taken my GL4 exam just after Christmas with a view to getting my Owl & Scales badge this season and after being assured by my local ACU&S chiefs that everything would be fine we now know that it's not.
I am, and anyone else that recently passed GL4 is now in limbo. My local Premier League panel and my local non-league panel have now told me that they will not appoint me to any games that require qualified umpires; they will only accept either 1) umpires that already hold ACU&S Fully Qualified status or 2) umpires that pass the new (and yet to come into being) ECBACO Level 2 exam + fieldwork. Obviously I have neither and I've been working towards this end for the last four years.
Taking my GL4 is now confirmed as having been a total waste of time as I will now have to wait until the new Level 2 course is in place and then take that and pass yet another exam just to get me to where I thought I was today!
I am now unable to apply to the Premier League panel for inclusion in the forseeable future and I am inelligible for 80% of the local games as they are University / Public School / County Veterans etc games that stipulate FQ status only. I feel that I'm being discriminated against.
I've put the case to ECBACO but have yet to receive anything other than a dismissive answer.
So why was I wrong to vote against?
Completely fed up, disillusioned and angry.
Pete
