Duncan, the question posed in this thread has nothing to do with stumping, since the ball has touched the wicketkeeper's helmet. The question concerns whether, following "subsequent contact between the ball and any fielder", as there has been in this case, the batsman will be out Run Out. You seem to be persisting with your mistaken belief that he is somehow protected because he is not attempting to run. I reiterate, this protection ONLY applies in the case of a No Ball. Please read and understand the Laws themselves so that you (1) don't cling to errors, and (2) know when your "county training officer" is wrong. But is he wrong, or are you ?

Oh for goodness sake. Read the Law! OK, Calm Down, Calm Down ! Had a discussion about this last night and we came to the conclusion that we eat humble pie and agree with you sillypoint. It is good to clarify as this is something that could happen.

So here's an interesting point of principle...
A batsman can't be out caught if the ball has struck a helmet that is being worn, on the principle that the helmet is for protection only and not to gain a competitive advantage.
Why is there a difference between a ball edged onto a helmet and caught at slip, and a ball edged onto a helmet that rebounds onto the stumps?

There is no difference. In one example a catch is ruled out, in the other case a stumping is ruled out—but in both cases, if there is subsequent contact with the ball by any fielder, Run Out is still possible.

The same incident happened in the recently concluded IPL as well. As the ball has touched the wicket keepers helmet , no question of stumping arises and as there is subsequent contact with the fielder ( in this case the wicket keeper himself), the striker is out run out.
