Pete
I have spoken to a relative who went through the football referees course 2 years ago and he said that with the CRB child protection first aid etc it cost him in excess of £100 and he did not get re imbursed, although as he said he did not mind this as he was getting £60 a weekend for refereeing matches.

Well gentlemen, I have just received 2 letters this morning from The ECB ACO, which is a relief.
The first thanks me for my patience etc etc but more importantly it reads in bold; 'Please noth that the ECB ACO insurance cover will be valid from the date of this letter'. It also gives various contact information.
The second letter is the 'Asscociation of Cricket Officials Newsletter', and informs of what is already on the website anyway (with a few more interesting pieces of information).
Also, it reads 'All ACU&S qualifications will be recognised by ECB ACO up to 30 April 2008. After that date, individual cases will be considered with ECB ACO reserving the right to make appropriate judgements.'
Have you receieved these letters?

I received this e mail?
We are acutely aware that we have not sent you a letter/email yet. We have been installing names of OA and transferring members from ACU&S to a new computer system which is just about ready to provide excellent member services. For those of you who have renewed your membership Thank You. The renewing of memberships and CRB checks is well under way and should be completed shortly. We will then produce membership cards for the 2008 season. For those who have not renewed please consider a few of the features of the new ECB ACO: Independent democratic structure. The ECB has an established County Board system, allowing County Associations and officials access to increased funding. Local associations will be set up in each County Board area and will be represented on the County Board giving officials a voice in cricket in the County. Comprehensive training courses for umpires and scorers to help develop officiating from the playground to the test arena. A comprehensive insurance package is in place covering Full members and Junior members from the age of 16. A Newsletter was posted last week informing you of the most recent updates in ECB ACO. I am pleased to announce that we now have a new computer database system. This will enable us to store all the details for the new, much larger, membership and soon will also give you quick and easy access to your details online. We have engaged the membership services of consultants ‘Goodform’ to help answer any queries you might have in the transitional period. As mentioned in the newsletter, the new Interim Board is in place. They held their first meeting on Tuesday 11th March and have announced that three committees will be set up to focus on specific aspects of the membership.

I received a call from the ECB today; apparantly those umpires who were formally members of The ACU&S should be expecting their membership cards in around a fortnight's time.

Guys if you look here: www.londonfa.com/referees/refereesbasic1.htmAbout 1/4 of the way down there is a little table that shows quite clearly the course costs in London. I did mine in Worcester 2 years ago, and it was even cheaper then. So you are paying £52 once you take into account your refund for doing 10 games. Additionally you are including in that cost the year's registration fee as a referee. So quite how one gets a figure of £100, like I said I don't know. Be nice to see a membership card if one is finally produced!

At a meeting with Chris Kelly last night, he claims the courses are not expensive but declined to say exactly how much they would cost, he did however say that GL4 cost us ex ACUS members, with membership, £125 - £150??? proving spin can be a wounderful thing if you believe it. Nobody at the meeting that I spoke with swallowed CKs spin. we all know what GL4 /GL5 etc cost and its not £150?

It was held at Essex CC and it was to explain the current situation, he did keep saying the phrase "With hind sight" as he was continually asked about the current fiasco.

[My emphasis] I have no brief for CK at all but you could reach that sort of figure by assuming: 2 years' ACUS membership @ £30 2 years' local ACUS @ say £5 GL6 / GL5 - say GL4 (per Number 6) Total | £60 £10 £30 £40 £140 |
Which only goes to show you can 'prove' anything with figures - as long as you don't compare like with like. Incidentally I received a phone call yesterday to say that my membership had been 'approved' would be sent for processing in this weeks batch with membership card etc going out in the following fortnight.
