I have shown below details of the level 1 umpiring course starting in Croydon on Monday 11 January 2016 at 19.00.
At the conclusion of the course there will be an exam. Passing this to become a level 1 umpire opens up many opportunities to umpire and commence a path in umpiring, should you so desire. For example this could be schools and district matches, the Surrey County League as well as clubs affiliated to the Surrey Championship where you could umpire their teams up to the 2nd X1.
There are many opportunities to gain experience as all matches benefit from having umpires with a good knowledge the Laws of cricket. To become fully qualified, however, it is advisable to take the Level 1A which includes much more about match management, man management and fieldcraft and we hope to see you progress to this after putting the Level 1 into practice next season.
On the opening night, from 19.00, there will be form filling for registration and payment. The link below provides payment detail but excludes the fee to become a member of the ECB. We have been able to secure a first year payment of £20. There are many advantages by becoming a member, for example insurance and access to clothing.
For the majority of you (age 16 and over) you will have to complete a DBS form (Disclosure and Barring Service).
Most of us are members of the Croydon Umpires and Scorers Association (CUSA). This membership costs £5 per year. We have an AGM in March, probably the Monday after the course finishes. This is mainly a social society but has access to the other 3 umpire societies in Surrey, free of charge.
Other details can be found here.
