It's nice to know that there is a surfeit of umpires willing to stand in the Devon League, such that they can afford to suspend one. Would that it were so in all other leagues.

It's nice to know that there is a surfeit of umpires willing to stand in the Devon League, such that they can afford to suspend one. Would that it were so in all other leagues. I did find - but unfortunately can't now trace - a blog from a player who alleged that the umpire in question gave him out and told him to f--- off. Naturally this account said that the outburst was unprovoked, but presumably the Devon ACO would have regarded this as immaterial anyway. Surely an umpire who uses that language (unless possibly in jest - and what I read made it clear this wasn't) needs to be disciplined at least as strongly as players who transgress in this way - or have I missed something?

Can someone tell me please what this umpire is supposed to have done to get him suspended? Why is everyone so coy?

It is a number of years ago now, but I recall a somewhat vocal wicket keeper having some banter with the batsmen, and when a straight delivery beat both the batsman and him, I said, loud enough for him to hear, "Call yourself a Wicket Keeper". He laughed and said "I'll report you for that." Not surprisingly, nothing was ever said about the incident, and even now, when we meet, we can joke about it.
