Since last March, it had been an EXTREMELY hectic period for me, never being able to go to sleep often before 2 am like.
You are well aware of my VOLUNTARY Commitment & most sincere Dedication towards making Public Buildings and Facilities, accessible and user-friendly to all, especially an estimated 16% of our population - That's precious 3 Million Human Lives!!
For several reasons, it is also a very important National Issue to Sri Lanka, economically & socially and even psychologically, even as the basis to RATIFY soon the UN Convention we have signed over 2 years ago.
With a view to overcome some identified 'Bottle Necks' we often face in above VOLUNTARY mission, and NOT at all to find fault with anyone or be a potential threat to anyone, but for a participatory, peaceful, TEAM Effort of all those concerned, in the Implementation of already identified measures spelt out by Disability related ACTS, Regulations, Conventions, Declarations, etc.,
(These Three Facts were heard loud & clear last Wednesday at the Courts by me, to spell out our Aims)
I FILED a Fundamental Rights Petition in the larger interest of the Society ( of People with Diverse Mobility to varying degree) at our Supreme Court in March 2009 and the 3 Member Bench that included the Chief Justice, granted us leave to PROCEED ahead.
Last Wednesday (22 July) it was the Fourth hearing at the Supreme Court and ......... here are some Vital ( somewhat unique as well ) Achievements - Single Handed, which I am sure, you would feel Proud and Happy about to share with me.
It is a pity we are yet to receive any Media Coverage, these achievements & endeavours deserves on its merits, in the greater interest of Sri Lanka !!
Today's (26 July) Sunday Times Page - 3 write-up - the first media coverage we yet got - gives some indications. The title they have given is NEGATIVE and furthermore it gives a wrong picture about my esteemed aims, which are NOT AT ALL to find faults or accuse anyone. As stated at the very end, the Chief Justice stated, I am free to Re-Activate this FR case anytime through a Motion filed, if I find the progress is not happy to my liking.
Here is the URL to Access its Internet Version: (
www.sundaytimes.lk/090726/News/sundaytimesnews_03.html Who could say the following are insignificant ?
(1) To Strategically EARN , the Unique Opportunity to make a 40 minute long Submission as a non-legal person and a Lifetime Wheelchair user, to the Three Member Supreme Court Bench, NOT for my benefit, but in the Larger interest of the Society and Country as well,
(2) To Tactfully DEFEAT valiant INSINCERE continuous efforts and Powerful Opposition, at times with unwanted distorted unethical Personal Attacks brought on unethically on me , by NONE OTHER THAN The Secretary Ministry of Social Services Herself - to get this Petition thrown away & Silence the Voice of the Disabled People of Sri Lanka, that was backed by the Deputy Solicitor General ( Her Proxy)
(3) To WIN something vital and Opportunity to RE-ACTIVATE the Case anytime I wish, after carefully planned submissions by me.
WHAT's NEXT ??
Its only the End to a Start. We need to travel ahead much more, facing greater unwanted threats from same source (!!)
Before I could reveal that, please spare few minutes for me - Wont you ?
1) Pass this URL and the Information to People Whom 'YOU THINK' Matters & Able to support us further. OTHER THAN CRICKET PEOPLE, any Potential Supporters like Rotarians, Staff Uni., etc ??
2) Very kindly let me know, please, JUST ONE thing you could perhaps DO, to further Help this Voluntary Mission of National Importance. We need 'True' Bridge Builders and it is NOW or NEVER !!
