The fact remains that the Pakistanis were caught tampering with the ball. The Darrell Hair emails scanario does not detract from this fact. Personally, I believe that Darrell has taken his position as now being untenable and was looking for some kind of redundancy/pension. I may be wrong. It is very sad that an umpire cannot use the laws of cricket as they are written without having to retire because some other people do not like his opinion. Also, why have we never heard anything from Billy Doctrove. As the other umpire surely he is jointly seen to have made the original decision. Just a thought. Totally I agree the law states "Umpires after consultation.....". So why is one of them being pillarised by the press?. As I have mentioned before this has turned into a media circus. Lets not forget that one of the most outspoken commentators, himself was found guilty of tampering with the ball.

I do wonder what happened between Doug Cowie and Darrell Hair before the first email.
Does anyone know much about Doug Cowie and his background?
Some of the wording also made me wonder whether it had been composed by a lawyer. Has anyone have examples of Darrell's personal writing style? His book would obviously have been edited and sharpened so that would be untypical, even if he did his own editing.

Wasn't Darrell Hair going to be a bigwig in the Institute?
